We just traded a 1400 dollar 250rm for a 400ex. Its a 2000 trx400ex. Is there a difference between a trx400ex and 400ex? Also It came with a DG xcellertor pipe on it . All my friends that have rode 400's before say this one is very strong for a 400. We got it up to 63mph yesterday. Is this a typical top speed. It also wants to pull the wheels of the ground through 3rd gear if you race it. Is there a way I can tell if there is any engine work done other than opening it up and looking.

 

trx400ex is just the full name of the 400ex, like trx450R or TRX250R. Top speed should be in the mid to high 60's. It may or may not have motor work, pthe front end coming up with just a pipe is pretty common.

 

Mine tops out atleast 80-85, but i have aftermarket modifications. lots of low end for me, top isn't sacrificed.

 

Are you sure yours tops out at 80 or are you guessing? Because i think it'll take a lot more mods than just bolt ons or a big change in gearing to go 80-85.

 

i think he is wishing,my buddies tops out right around 68mph with the same mods he has plus he also has a open airbox..

You sure there in the 60's? I was just guessing 80-85, i never knew the real speed. I dun care about top end.

 

Put airbox lid back on he could be getting to much air or dust.
