i have a set of aluminum wheels that have paddle tires mounted on them. the sand had pretty much ruined the finish, so i painted them black, and of course the sand tore the paint off real quick. is it possible to powdercoat aluminum wheels? would the tires still mount and seat on the bead without a problem? I really don't want to spend $500 on a set of carbon fiber wheels jus to have them black.

How were they ruined?? Did they just loose their shine?? You should invest in a die grinder and polish up your wheels, or get some mothers to polish them up.

Yeah you can powder coat them. Just make sure that the powder coater guy plugs the lugnut holes

the lost their shine, but i used a wire brush, and high speed dremell to take the rest of the shine off so the primer would stick. thanx for the info. now i gotta find a shop that will powder coat them, and find out how much its gonna cost.

Yup, you can PC aluminum. I have a Buick turbo 6 (grand national style drive line) with a lot of PC aluminum parts. Before you do it make sure you understand how much prep you have have to do / how much the coater will do. It is like anything else, the prep makes or breaks the final product.

You could polish them back up, but that would probably be endless work if you're riding in the sand. Powdercoating would probably be the way to go. They'd look really cool either way!

Could you use something like the high temp engine paint? I realize the sand would destroy it, but what about if dont ride in any sand.....unfortunatley.
