I have had my kodiac 2 1/2 months now and had to put back brakes on already. I know what you are thinking but I do not ride the brakes. They are $34.00 at the dealer. Is this common and is there a cheaper place to get them?

I had to replace my back brake today, after about 100 miles on the bike. I've heard of a lot of people having this problem. Other than that, I love the kodiak.
Mine was $32.00 at the local Yamaha dealer.

I have over 450 miles and still good brakes. I'm keeping an eye on them though. A Yamaha mechanic told me they have heavier duty brake pads available.

My rear brakes died at 650Km and I don't even use them.. I've been told Polaris had the same problem and EBC brake pads fixed the problem. My Yammie dealer told me to keep checking back, "they will be available for the 2000 Kodiaks any day now."

I have seen alot of talk about Kodiak owners tearing thru brake pads.. Im at 600 miles on my y2kodiak and they are still like new. I dont baby my brakes, i do use them. And i try to hose them off after a muddy ride.
Going thru pads at 100 miles sounds defective. That can be put on in a 1 day trip. I would go back to the dealer and complain or contact Yamaha.

My friend just got a 00 kodiak and the brakes wore out in 1 month. He put new ones on and there gone. I believe the reason is that the hydrolic fluid has a tube that goes from the front and then real close to the engine and it heats up the fluid causing the breaks to wear out.

A assume you mean by heat expanding the fluid.. But you would hear and feel the pads rubbing right??
