Starting problems Artic Cat 90 4stroke
#1
Hi
I did buy a Artic Cat 90 4stroke for my son, 2 weeks ago. Now it's seems that it's getting harder and harder to get the engine to run when the engine are cold ? It's alot easyer to start when the engine are warm.
I have not removed any speed limiter on it. And I do not live or ride up in the mountains.
Have you guys any suggestion about what could be wrong ?
Thanks
Tor Erik

Hi Hondabuster
I have just looked at the spark plug, and it was really black. I thougt maybe this occured because of the throttle limiter was fully in. I have opened the throttle limiter alot, and hope this helps.
Do you think the engine / spark plug gets " fouled " or what you call it, when you are not able to give it full throttle ?
Thanks for your advice !

Take it back to your dealer and ask them if the carb product improvements were done to unit. If they have not that should fix your problem, don't have access to bulliten numbers any more but there are a couple of things out on the carbs.

Sorry. I missed reading yours is a 4-stroke so that won't help. Try ArcticChat.com to get listing of service bullitins and specific info on Cats, just remembered this site hope it helps.

Taking it back to the dealer, or talking to him may be the best route.
It shouldnt hurt a 4 stroke to run at low rpm and low load, something must be out of adjustment with the choke and or carb circuits. If its still under warentee, let the dealer handle it.
Looks like it has a mixture screw, its number 12 in this view.carb pic
And it looks to have an electric choke, this is something the dealer should check, to see if its working properly.

Hi, I too have a arctic cat 4 stroke 90 that is giving me problems. It is hard to start cold, I have to wind on the starter along time to get it to start, long enough to where I can smell gas, then wait for a while 10 mins. or so and try it again, and it usually starts. It has been to the dealer, and they replaced the coil, the spark plug and it still acts up, its out of warrenty now. I have pulled the carb off and opened it up, cleaned it but the same problem comes back, I thought I had it fixed, because after I pulled the carb, cleaned it and replaced it, it started right up. I seem to think its the auto choke, and would like to either get a different carb or a manual choke kit for the carb. any body know a replacement carb that might fit?
thanks howard

Hi again !
About starting problems, the AC 90 of my son does not have any starting problems anymoore. What I have done; I have removed the throttle limiter, I think the spark plug looks better now. And do you remember to turn the fuel valve to off position after you are finished riding it ? If we forget to turn of the fuel valve, I think it's alot harder to get starting.
