Kawi Dominates The Mud Races...
#1
It was a good weekend for team Kawasaki... the big $500.00 prize mud race that I had been pushing was Saturday... well, when the mud splatters finally settled, there were 3 Prairies on the podium... I took 1st, & got the "plywood" check, & the 1st place trophy, & 2 other (650) Prairies took 2nd & 3rd... so much for the IRS thing... there was atleast 1 Grizzly, & at least 1 Sportsman, that had to be towed out of "the hole", & not one Prairie, got stuck... Momma still wasn't happy... she took a 2nd, & 3rd place on her 300 Prairie... 3rd in the powder puff, out of 3... the other 2 girls were riding an Outlaw equiped 700 Sportsman, & she was racing a close to stock 300 Prairie with stock tires... only 10ths of a second seperated there times, but I did here her discustedly utter under her breath, that she needs a bigger quad ( though she wouldn't admit it later... she thinks we have too much tied up in quads already...LOL... )... she won't ride mine, as it is too dangerous...
I want to thank High Lifter for donating the winch...( the guy that got stuck on his Grizzly, was the one that won the winch... we had to give him a little ribbing, that he'd better get that winch installed asap...LOL...
I had found out about a 2nd mud race, on Sunday, & since the quad was already dirty, a buddy of mine, & I went up, I was the only open class quad ( this was this group of clubs 1st mud race ), so I was guarenteed the 1st place trophy... so I just played in the mud, working the pit for them... they had an excellent location, & the pit was one of the nastiest I've been in... by the time I did my last timed run, there was a 4 ft deep hole at the end, that was the consistancy of thick cement... try as they could, they could not "stick" my Prairie... there was one time, that I had to back up... the Zilla's threw mud 20 ft into the air, completely covering me & the quad in goo... this is the 1st time that I've ever had to back up in a pit, & I had heard that the zilla's don't back up well... well thats a false "old wives tale", as they backed up very positively... my buddy raced our 300, & took 1st place in the under 400 class...
It's funny how different locations, can change what competes, we had the only Prairies, in Sundays Mud race... & 3/4 of the open class racers were wearing Outlaws, on Saturday, But there wasn't one set of Outlaws at Sunday's race...( I see an untapped tire market, for High Lifter )

Mike W,
Good job on both wins this weekend!!
BTW, I had a local XC on Sunday and took home a 2nd place plaque (out of 5 racers in my utility 4wd class). I managed to beat another P650 and a Grizzly 660 in the process...I finished only 1 minute behind a young guy on a very fast Scrambler 500 H.O. 4x4, so I was pretty happy with my results. Not sure how hot it was at your mud bog races this weekend, but the HEAT was getting to most of us guys in my 1:30pm race on Sunday (temps in the 90s & high humidity) which lasted about 90 minutes.
Happy trails...

good job MIKEY... the hydration paks are invaluable in a race with those conditions... I'll likely be cleaning up my quad, for the next week, & switching over equipment, then hope to be back to the drag strip next week end...
BTW... one of my runs through the 150ft mud pit ( with deep enough holes to stick at least 1 Grizzly, & at least 1 Sportsman, along with a host of other quads ), was only 5.8 seconds... I even had to let off it a little, to keep the beast from throwing me into the goo...LOL...
