yes the 500H.O will replace the regular 500. they are already at some dealers now. when your dealer orders a sportsman from now on it will be a 2001 model and it will have the 500h.o engine.

H.O. means high output. The HO engines have a larger carb, and a different cam and crankshaft, producing about 20% more power at the crank then the standard 500 engine.

H.O. means High Output. All of the 2001 Sportsman 500's will have the H.O. engine in them, giving them 20% more power.

im perplexed about this H.O thing. chopperbill said that the 2001 sp500h.o he tested said it had the 34mm carb, same as last year. so how does polaris get the 20% incresase in power when its the same size carb? shouldent it be a 40mm like the scrambler? or was it a missprint of what he read?

Take a read of Chopperbill post of Aug 4th, one of the listers (MNXPLORER) made mention of the tag reading 34mm but the carb is actually a 40mm.

Yes, I think Chopper eventually said he looked and saw it was a 40mm also.

DirtWheels printed a 60 mph Wolverine can be reeled in by a 51 mph Rancher on the top end so the Ruby should beat any bike DirtWheels wants it to.
