Default porting and race fuel f/banshee

I am looking at getting my son's 2002 banshee ported and milled, will we have to run race fuel, mixture of both, (if so, what percent) or can I still run pump gas???

Depends on how much porting is done. How much will the exhaust port be raised? How much are you milling off the head?

don't know the answers to the first two, but the head will get .020, will be sending off to someone to get work done, not from me, was just curious about the price of race fuel all time for him to ride....

If you are only taking .020 off the head, pump gas will be fine. I have ran as much as .030-.035" and still ran pump. That is without any porting. Any thing other than just a clean up port job will raise the exhaust port height and bleed cranking pressure from the cylinder. You need smaller domes to get the compression back. I love aftermarket heads. Dome change is easy, plus the design of the dome give superior power compared to cut stock.

we ran pump gas every once in a while even when we had 230 psi when we didn't have any race gas(we didnt know we had that much compression). it never hurt anything but we shouldnt have done it.

Dayum,230 pounds, that's alot of compression. My mx port and dune port that I do are both able to run pump gas with a shaved head. You will lose crank pressure when it is ported and you can get enough off the stock head to get it back.I don't know what kinda portwork you're getting but we have two bikes running stock heads with full drag port on alky. One is a 4mill and one is 02bansheeman's 350.If you want a little more compression you can have it o-ringed and not run a head gasket, that's the setup I run in our 4mill bike.I have the stock head shaved,o-ringed and cut for the 4mill crank so I don't have to run a spacer. You're not that far from me if you're in Kermit. Are there many drag bikes that go there?

i will find out what type of porting he is doing to it, didn't know there was different types, anyway, what domes are you talking about, what size should i get for a 2002 banshee, milled head, ported??, reeds with spacer, 2-1 toomey air filter, pipes, my son does not have to be the fastest one out there, be he does not need to get spanked everytime either, ok maybe he does need to be the fastest, got to brag some, dont I,, ha

dragman - where are you from?? I have only seen two quads that i would say are true drag bikes at the Kermit sand dunes, might have been you!! do not know where there from, but there are some pretty fast ones out here on the weekends.....

I'm from Paris,TX.I've never been out there but I here it's a nice place to ride. Most companies can shave the head for you, just tell em' what you're doing.I like the ability to change the domes in an aftermarket head but I hate messing with all those o-rings.Plus I like running the stocker for that sleeper look.I usually just tell people I run drag pipes because I like em' loud.LOL.The ten over arm is just for looks too! There is a differance in portwork, don't let anyone tell you there isn't.The dune or mx port is pretty much the same but the dune has a little more top-end,both are really reliable and easy to ride.A full drag port has alot of top- end and is really really fast.

Porting is not only enlarging the ports for more airflow, but also opening them upward or downward which adjusts your porting timing (the amount of time the port is open)
