From 72-76mph I've heard.Tire pressure, air temperature, elevation and rider weight make up some of the reasons for discrepincies in speeds.

I went on a website (can't remeber which one) last month that had a test of all of the 2 stokes from the 80's. The TRX250R hit 72mph. This is a little off topic but they said that the STOCK Quadzilla hit 81 mph........damn thats fast!

81 is haulin the freight. if the gears on the TRX are the same as the ATC, i disagree with all speeds posted to far.

Were the transmissions the same from the liquid cooled ATC to TRX?
I think the TRX 86 stock gearing was 13/38 and the 87-89 were 13/39
When my R was stock with 13/38 gearing (but with 18" tires) I hit 70mph....I was racing our pet cheetah so I know that's accurate

ok first the top speed is 70-72 depending on the year (this would be with original tires, gears, ect) The ATC's (85-86) and TRX's (86-87) all had 13/39 with 5th and 6th being a tad bit taller than 88-89 TRX's The 88-89 had 13/38 with a 200 RPM higher rev limiter. Also the 85-87 250Rs all had a slightly higher primary gear, therefor each years were very close to each other. LOL, now put a 15 tooth front sproket on the 250R and you will hit about 90.
By the way there was SO many little changes from 86/87-88/89 250R's its not even that funny....
