I donno wtf that guy is smokin lol, but the 01 raptor is NOTORIOUS for the Tranny probs, Yamaha has warrantied tons of 01's....HEH he must have a Clutch Prob also that he is not tellin you about...sounds like its fine now, but has cluch wear, so basically fix the clutch with a GYT-R, and then have a sitting timebomb....if ur lucky the rappy will hold up, if not well u know...ur gonna have quite a mess. Thats prolly why hes sellin it for only 1800, if its got a bad clutch tell him you will give him 1500.

The best of luck, Hopefully its in good condition otherwise, and not been badly beat on!!!, Make sure u ask him about how often he Maintainced it and stuff.

Hope this helps,

If you decide to go new, which is always the way to go, I recommend an 04, its gotta be the best so far...specially the LE, it really does look quite menacing, especially after a few good mods.

Should, but im not totally sure, if you end up gettin a beat on raptor, its going to be a total waste of your money, i have considered gettin an 02, just as a project quad, but im afraid ill go bankrupt just makin the d4mn thing work right...problem is finding a good well maintained used one!!!

Where was I when Yamaha recalled tons of trannies? If I remember correctly, the only way people got there trannies replaced, is when they went out and were still under warrenty, there was no recall.

As for the your question on the quad... It all depends on what is wrong with the quad, if everything about the clutch needs to be replaced, your looking at spending 400+ to fix, if it just needs new plates, your looking at less than 100$. As for the 01 tranny problem... If the quad doesnt show signs of a failure, or soon to fail it should be allright. There are still tons of 01 trannies working fine. Your call though because anything could happen.
