Getting 2005 Raptor, what to do?
#1
Gonna get the LE i guess in August. I have a couple of questions.
a.) What is the best way to break this engine in? Bike is gonna be used for trail riding/ going down gravel roads / sand... no real racing
b.) Is there anything I should be getting now, besides a helmet/gogles?
c.) Is there anything that should be changed as soon as I get it? I have read some stuff about air filters etc, please elaborate.

Go to www.mototuneusa.com and read their break-in article. It's very informative.
Change your break in oil after a very short time. Then change it again after a very short time. Oil is cheap, and there WILL be stuff in it that you want out.

a) start it up, let it run for 5 minutes,,,,shut it down,,,,let it cool completely,,,,start it up and ride it lightly for about 20 minutes,,,,shut it down..let it cool,,,,,,then just ride it,,,,,,change the oil after the 1st ride.
b)In order of priority,,,,,,,,,chest protector,,,new skid plates,,,nerf bars
c) there are some simple mods to get the HP up,,,,new intake/filter, jets, exhaust,,,,,,,,,but I would just get used to the bike 1st,,,,it has plenty of stock power
also,,,,try a 12 tooth front sprocket ($15)(it is geared a little high fromn the factory)

The Raptor needs a decent skid too replace the plastic one from the factory. Next it needs a pro flo (or equivalent). Don't forget a ramp if you will be hauling the quad in a truck.

First thing you need to get is INSURANCE my 2001 Raptor got stolen and thank god i had insurance unfortunatly my brother had his 2001 stolen and he didnt have isurance now im riding a 2003 Raptor and he is still saving for his. I also would invest in a good chain and lock Kryptonite makes a good product. My personel best by for my quad was a TAG front bumper I think it has saved my A arms more than once.

Ok, Here is the lowdown on what happened. Im stationed at Fort Polk LA. So whoever stole it had to get through the gate ie active army contracter or whatever. I had my quads stored at a lot by my house it has a 8 foot fence with barbed wire on top. They cut the lock on the gate, got in and my trailer had a flat (thank god) so they couldnt take the whole thing, I had a hitch lock not a cheap one but a $40.00 lock. Since they couldnt take both of my quads and trailer, they cut the 2 locks i had on the chain loaded my baby in their truck and hauled butt. So basicly they had to get on post find my quads (i had a tarp over them) cut 3 locks. (1 to get through gate and 2 on my chain) and this is all happening on a military post and we have a butt load of military police also it became a FEDERAL offence cause they broke into a military storage lot. So what im saying if sombody wants ur quad they will figure out some sneaky way to get it so PLEASE get insurance it is great pice of mind and state farm paid me $4700 for my old one and i picked up a 2003 LE for $5100 and they paid me within 30 days of it getting stolen so there it is in a nut roll INSURANCE IS A MUST!!!!!!

yes my 300ex was in the bed of my dads truck, and the tailgate is a very loud thing to open(crowbar or something is required)so they lifted it over the tailgate, rolled it out, loaded it and left.unfortunately my raptor was sitting in my garage, locked, with insurance, and the ex was not
