yfz450 question
#1
I am thinking about buying a 450 and have a few ??? I trail ride mostly
Beening high compression and a short stroke are they easy to stall compared to a raptor?
Is the suspension too stiff or can you turn down the compression aways?
Does pulling out the baffle in the stock baffle and rejetting make a big diff?
How do they shift? Are they like a 250r?
How are they on hills is the swing arm too short-do they want too wheelie like a rap. or do they climb well like a 86 250R?
How is the stock gearing would I have to drop a tooth if I put 22 on the back?
Thanks in advance any info is appreciated
Mike

Not really, I had no problem with it stalling when I rode it.
Not too stiff, and you can make it softer whenever you want.
Yes, you wont believe how much these free mods can do for you.
Uhh.. They shift like any other four stroke to me, just a lot more snappy and agile.
The YFZ did not want to wheelie at all up the hill, very stable ride, especially at high speeds.

as far as woods etc, he rode everwhere I did and said it was fine. I felt the shocks were stiff, but I'm thinking they can be adjusted easily, and I've read that they are easily revalved to your weight/ride style. I've also read that it's uberly well balanced and is not totally wheelie prone like other quads.
I ride mostly woods/trails, and I'm getting a YFZ soon. I don't feel like it will be a problem at all! Looking forward to it! Plus, the 05's have a thicker seat

A buddy of mine owns one and he rides the trail with us and the bike didnt stall at all even brand new the guy bought it the same day he went riding with us without even break in and the bike didnt stall at all it shifts like a dream and its very wide and stable and didnt get stuck no where i rode it once trying to go up a hill held up nice didnt even tried to wheelie. And the suspention not the best but it id a good suspention.
The only thing I dislike about it its the hard seat but Yamaha actually fixed it on the new YFZ 2005.

I, personally do not like the yfz for some reasons, it is not the best wheelier, but will come up if you want it to, the seat, the hard hitting power, and no reverse.
There are some parts I like, such as, light weight, great handling, does not wheelie up hills(espicially with momentum), the easy shifting, and great brakes.
I think I answered some of your questions there!

there are some things the yfz has over the raptor and some things that the rap has over the yfz. The yfz has a more snappy, responsive engine, better suspension (very adjustable), more stable and it only wheelies when you want to so it isnt intimidating. the yfz and raptor are both very responsive to modifications even the free ones. The raptor has more torque and ground clearance than the yfz and it comes with better trail tires, It is a little bit wheelie prone but only on grippy terrain or up hills. both are good choices.
