Default backfiring thru ehaust ?

i havent changed anything from before! i went to a poker run last month with my wife, and it did it a couple times. yesterday i went with my buddy and every time i let off the gas= boom. i tryed to adjust the pilots, but it didnt change. i went down hill with no gas, EB working, and you would here it pop a couple times. i did install a O2 sensor into the rear pipe, i didnt have any leaks around the weld in bung. i have a little leak at the head though. would a ehaust leak cause this backfire?

it pulls hard, runs fine but it was very anoying to here it back fire. i did try the stock cdi and no change. i did notice when i came up on slower traffic and she went KA-BOOM they moved quickly out of my way, but thats not how i want to make them move.

any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Howdy,
if you have an exhaust leak at the head, that is your problem. It is sucking cold air into the valves when you let off the gas and causing the booms. I have had the same thing before. See if you can stop your leak and I will bet the popping stops. Have a goodun!!!

when i had my pipe off i didnt see a gasket. i went to kawi site and seen their was indeed a gasket, so i went out to the garage and low and behold there it was laying on the floor under neath my prairie. i took the pipe off so i could install my o2 sensor.

i'll give it a try tomorow. going to put some more holes in my muffler and install a stainless steel plate ( with 1/4" holes) to keep the mud out.

thank you for your reply, let you know monday if it work's

Deerchoper, That was funny when you catch people and Kaboom, they scatter. Good luck on your backfiring. Mine does too but not very loud . I am wondering about adding a spark arrester to the pipe mod. I have stock jetting at 1800' not sure if I need to jet up

Deerchooper, keep us posted. I've got canon fire coming out of mine, too. Only when descelerated from moderate to high speed, though.

I had the same problem with my V . I left the back head pipe about a half turn to loose causing it to back fire .I'm talking it sounded like a 12gauge shotgun and looked like a flame thrower. Tightened the head pipe and no more problems.
