1997 Polaris Scrambler 500cc. (Help).
#1
Hi.
I’m looking at 1997 Polaris Scrambler 500cc. It runs good at low throttle but bogs right out a high end; it starts to miss and has no power. Does any one have any idea what could cause this problem?
Also is there any thing to look out for on the scrambler 500?
Any help at all would be appreciated .
Thanks .

for your bogging problems it sounds like the carb...Your jets are either not the right size or they are clogged.....Just remember that your pilot jet is your idle..........your needle is your mid range........and your main jet is top end (full throttle)....So it sounds like you just need to clean the carb out real good and then clean your jets........and if that doesn't solve your problem then you might have to jet some new jets for it.....
I have a 2000 scrambler 500 4x4 and its a beast.........I love it...the scrammys are great all around quads. the things I would look out for is tires....brakes...and see if it shifts smooth.

Check to see if it has a paper air filter. They get wet or oily they won't flow very well and will foul the plug. Change the plug, if the problem is still there then check the carb.

1997 was the first year for the Scrambler 500. This is NOT an H.O. motor. It is the same engine found in the 95-2000 sportsmans. I would suggest looking at another year. 1998 was the first year for the H.O. 500 in the Scramblers. Stock for Stock the 1998 and up machines would kill the non-H.O. motor performance wise. Also the suspension has a bit more travel in the later years. It is possible to make an H.O. out of it but why pay an extra $500(just a guess), if you don't have to. So unless the price is exceptinal, or you don't care about the extra power I would look for a new model. As for the bog it sounds like it is not getting fuel. Look at the main jets, junk in the bowl, and the fuel filters for staters.

If it isnt the filter or plug there is a good possablity of a bad cam.I would look at a newer modle the 3 chain 4x4 system is a pain in the rear.
