450's are these quads really that insane?

i was just kinda wondering, this isn't another banshee vs. 450 thread because those are clearly wore out. But i was just thinking i've got a shee with the T-5's, K&N's, no airbox, and 4 degree key and i think that's pretty darn quick, fast, or what ever you want to call it. I mean if you goofing around and gun it at the wrong moment that shee will get away from ya, basically saying it has enough power to make just about any gear more than exciting. Back to my question, from what i've gathered these 450's stock can hang with this kind of setup, right? With mods these 450's must be insane, there are none down here in Boonville, MO so i haven't seen any in action. In general what i'm wondering are my conclusions i've drawn about these 450 accurate, are they really that bada$$?

Its all about power vs. weight. With nearly 40 hp stock and wieghing in at 350 lbs they are fast! tricked out they are near untouchable in everyday riding (not straight line drags). A stock one will leave just about all other stock bikes behind! Get one and have fun!

From my experience, No. They aren't all that.
The reason so many people think the YFZ is God's gift to the ATV world is due to people not taking into account is that the YFZ doesn't come as "stock" as most bikes. It already has larger valves, higher compression, larger bore (compared to the stroke) , etc... than other "stock" bikes in its class. This means that a factory YFZ should perform as well as a moderately modified bike of relatively the same size; and indeed it does. I firmly believe that this is the cause of most major misconceptions relating to the YFZ.
I am sure a long list of name calling and accusations of libel from all the YFZ fans is sure to follow. However, this is my opinion based on my experiences with the YFZ and its performance related to other bikes and should be regarded as nothing more or less.

Hounddog, you're completely right about the performance of the YFZ. It is hopped-up from the factory, but this is because Yamaha made it that way specifically to enforce the "race-readiness." The whole purpose of the YFZ and 450R is to buy the machine and have a very competitive quad right from the dealer, not having to dump a lot of money into a less competitive machine to bring it up to par with racers. The new 450s really are a HUGE step in the perfect direction. 4-stroke racing in the dirtbike world is becoming really interesting and competitive and doing a lot for the sport itself. That is what Yamaha wants to eventually happen in the ATV realm. Think of the YFZ as the ATV counterpart to Yamaha's flagship 2-wheel machine: the YZ450F. Eventually, every manufacterer will have a purpose-built 450 racer or else they will fall behind the competition.
