Default Cluch Release Shaft Stripped...

Had the splines on me clutch shaft strip out and bind up. This is the shaft protruding out of the top left side case that the Clutch cable connects to. Now I'm talking about the pinion spline that mates to the clutch throw out bearing shaft. Has this happened to anyone else? Maybe I'm just the only lucky one and I didn't even know it.
One more question, the throw out bearing seems to float loosly, is this normal?

Thanks

The newer ones are tougher. The old Y2K ones suck.

I was told there is a new part number, must be the upgraded version. $50 for a 4" shaft seems steep, what a fella to do? If your going to play, I guess every once in a while you gotta pay...

be careful as you put the clutch cover on. They can break off pretty easily. Did any of the ones on the piece that is connected to the clutch break of too?

when doing your new install be sure to take both apart and clean them good those broke of teeth seem to stay in the shaft that goes to the cable arm. hope that sounded right.

Happened to me just a week ago on my 04. Two gears on the actuator (clutch side). I was at St anthony's when it happened. Couldn't find the part in Rexburg so we came home a day early. The post on the case is okay but am replacing it to!

I will carry an extra one from now on!

St Anthony's was awesome! If you have not been you should. Hint to sandman, sandbomber and afterburner. Next year will be 5 days instead of 3. Tall sweeping dunes, ride for miles, steep hill, big bowls, clean and not crowded, camping facilities (Full hook up), dune access that is all sand. We had a great time!

Well maybe I'm not so lucky after all, sounds like It's just a DS thing that others have worked thru. Thanks for the replies.

After installing my RWR clutch springs I thought maybe it would stretch out the cable more. Now after reading this I wonder if the springs will accelerate the wear on the these teeth & clutch connective parts in general...?

also, I'm noticing dust collecting around the top of my splined shaft that exits the top of the clutch cover. Has anyone ever had to replace that seal?
