Why does Honda do this
#1
I have noticed that the honda recon is called a 250, but the motor is actually a 229cc which should make it a 225 class quad, not a 250. The same goes for the rancher. They call it a 350 when the motor is a 329cc which should make it a 325 class quad, not a 350. And then the Forman 450 is a 433cc motor, which should put it in the 400-425class, not 450. It seems like they are undercutting the motor size for the class they put these quads in. I am not bashing hondas. I have a 97 honda recon "250" and I like hondas. I just don't understand why they do this. I mean, when you say something is a 350, it should have a 350cc motor +/- 5cc (345-355cc range). It just doesn't make sence, unless they are trying to undercut the buyer.

229 will not make a 225 class as it exceeds 225..... its not a hard system it just adds a little room for improvement..... All bikes are in the same category. a 600CC street bike is only 599. some 1000CC are 990.

I believe its called marketing. I mean wants a 229cc sticker on there bike or a 329cc sticker. They classify the bikes according to the market. My two cents worth.

So how does polaris and yamaha get around this. The polaris 400SP is 425cc, but is called a 400. And, the yamaha kodiak 400 is 401cc. I know 1cc is no big deal, but 425cc? Why don't honda call their rancher a 430 and the recon a 230? Since they call them 350 and 250, that makes them the smallest in their classes. They are great quads, but I have always wondered about this.
