400L drag racers- opinion?
#1
Hello all. The reason for this post is, Im hell bent on losing these heavy pigs we like to call struts. Ive heard of some that convert to marvin shaw struts/schocks. But then youve gotta buy custom spindles ( I think) wich are 400$ from HPD. Why cudnt you use a pice of solid stock- aluminum box tube maybe. Make the front end rigid. And use a spindle off of an old 250x, warrior, lakota. Something like that? I also notice that Yamaha timberwolf uses a similar strut setup also? Any body else got any thoughts on this? Man, these things are heavy! And im gona change that a lil at a time.

The hpd chassis overall aren't any lighter if you totally mod the stock frame you can get it to around 360. Unless you go with lightweight a arms and shaws I doubt a 250r front end will be much lighter. I think Dennis has a marvin shaw setup that uses the stock strut housing, but I think it only takes off 10 lbs or so. 360 is pretty light of course not compared to all out drag quads!

Remove floorboards, starter, battery, fan, shift linkage. Basically anything that dosent involve just running and moving foward. I even removed charge coils from the stator, and reverse gear from tranny. Speaking of wheels, I have 190s also and I thot of sellin em and going to a 120. I wonder how much less they weigh, and how they hold up, if you dont hit anything with em?
