Default Help with Raptor jetting

Help a beginner with some jetting isues.

I'm on my 5th try and still havn't got everything working right.
I have a 04 raptor with Yoshi full exhaust pro-flow k+n with no lid. Also I am at sea level.

Right now I have 25 pilots stock needles in stock clip and 170 175 mains. This is the best I have gotten so far. It still pops out the exhaust under full throttle when you hit the throttle after a shift and then tries to clean up but never pulls quite right.
At first when it wasn't quite warm it pulled great but after it warmed up it didn't pull right anymore.

I have tried 150/155 (came with the kit, funny)155/160 165/170 and all poped on top end. I tried 175/180 and it seemed to bluber on top and pulled fine through mid.

Please help I'm wearing out the screws taking this apart so much. I've had the quad 3 weeks and it's been down for 2. I'm thinking now I should of bought a jet kit instead of trying to peice it together.

Default Help with Raptor jetting

I called yoshi when I first started and they offered no help. They said to call K+N and ask them. The Yoshi instructions also said to run the air bleeds at 1.5 turns out. The thing wouldn't even start.

I'm thinking I have a problem with my stock needle. The stock position is on the third clip. Would I be better off with a GTYR kit and its needles? If so would I most likley need to step the mains down with the smaller needles?

I tried those main jets and it would pop and backfire like crazy.165/170 wasn't poping to bad but it was still a little lean.

Thanks for the help.

I would put the stock pilots back in before you do any more swapping, you have to go *big* before you need a bigger pilot.

In fact go back to stock and maybe 1 main size larger, and look at your plug. A slip on and a filter usaually isn't that much of a change, most bikes are rich out of the box.

Pilots wont matter at full throttle.I have full yoshi k+n no air lid but Iused dyno jets.My needle is on 3rd clip with three full turns out on air scres I cant help with jet sizes because they size different then mikuni. If your problems are at full throttle you may have to adjust clip onneedle or your fuel air mixture screws.I just ordered 25 pilots because if Ijump on the breaks in a fast turn or if I dont gas it just right at starts I will stall it out.

Default Help with Raptor jetting

My low end seems to be fine. It really liked the 25 pilots with about 2.5 turns out. The main problem is after a shift when returning to full throttle it pops and backfires like its lean. 1st gear was fine, hit second sputtered then wheelied up again, hit third sputtered and never really pulled hard again.

Float problem?

It can't be to rich, 165/170 sputtered on top end. 175/180 wouldn't pull above 3/4 throttle.

Should I just put my lid on and jet it for that? It seems like people have less problems jetting with the lid on. After all the money I spent on the other stuff it seems silly to throw away free horsepower like that.

id check your gas. maybe low or just old/ low quality. If thats not it check make sure your getting good spark. I know it sounds weird on a new machine but it just sounds like a problem i had that turned out to be the coil. Could also have the wrong plug in it.

You should have screws 3 turns out.Ihave same mods as you.Mine ran good with dyno jets.Only problem I had was The biggest jets they gave me in kit werent big enough so i ended up buying bigger mains. You should do a plug check to see if it is to rich.Run it at full throttle for a few seconds then kill motor and pull plug and check color.
