Default 400ex hott cam stage 1 or 2?

I got a '99 400ex 2 weeks ago and now want to give it more power. It already has a full big gun pipe with a k&n Filter with no air box lid.. and yes it is jetted right. It also is a 416. I ride mostly trails and stome tracks as well as roads. I also love to do weelies. so would a stage 2 cam be too much for my type of riding? and is it worth the money?

I had a Hotcams Stage II cam in my 400EX (sold the quad). If I were to do it again, I would go with the Stage I.

With the Stage II, you have to keep the engine reved to the hilt all the time. It does not like being lugged one bit. If you ride mainly woods and trails, you might want to check into the Stage I, or maybe go with the XR400 cam.

Default 400ex hott cam stage 1 or 2?

good to ask questions before purchasing . the stage 1 cam is perfect for dirt road, trail afternoon riding. i installed one on a 01 400ex and it was very competitive in dirt and trail riding. i have currently purchased a stage 2 for a 01 400ex that we installed a 6"over swingarm on and am currently waiting to test it before the camshaft and high comp piston are installed. as soon as i test it at the track we will install the stage 2camshaft and 12:1 comp piston and retest next month if interested in results pm me in about a month and i will tell you the results. with the first quad with a 11:1 wiseco and stage 1 cam with a stock swingarm we ran 5.8 and higher. hoping this one will get to the lower 5s with out a big bore kit. but right now we are experimenting.

Check out web cams. They have 5 not 2, way more choices in the power curve.

Thanks for all of your help.

I think that im going to get a hott cam stage 1 so i can still have some bottom end.

You guys think that i should get a bigger carb? And if so would it still have good bottom end power?
