One day, while searching the papers to see how Blasters were selling for (selling ours), my wife found an 86 250r for a little over a grand.
I jumped up and called the guy. That weekend we drove across the state to take a look at it. It was in terrible shape. The frame had some cracks, but it was put together by the guy's friends so he could ride. I think the motor was an 85 atc, but the frame was an 86. I looked at it and thought about how much it would take to fix it up. I thought about offering the guy $1000, but talked myself out of it.
A few months later, I stumbled upon a racing 89 250R for $2500. Everything was already aftermarket. I grabbed it and completely stripped it down.
If you really want one, then be patient. One will be found.

Yeah I know what it is like I went to look at a thrashed 86 250R for $1700 I figured it out and it was going to cost me around $1700 just to make it run like stock so I offered him 1500 and he wouldn't take it so I have now found a 89 in perfect shape (looks like it is off the showroom) so I'm going to talk to the guy and tell him to call me when he is sick off it.
But yeah I agree don't be pushy just wait.

I just remained patient when I was looking for an R for my wife. Looked at a lot of junk for tooo much money. Finally found one right here in town. It's an '87, with original plastic that hadn't been cut yet, a fresh motor, Boyesen reeds, polished side covers, FMF Fatty, Holeshots up front, Turftamers on the rear, a pair of Skattrak paddles and very clean. I got it away from him for $2800! It was a steal. Just keep looking. There's still one out there for you.

Id get it. Personally I am going to wait to see new quad models next summer where I can pick up money. Depending on prices, I'd be interested in the GasGas or honda's sport model (if they make one).
but id take the 250r if i could.
