650 not able to go more than 40?
#1
Ok, I took my 650 out today for the first ride. Had the bike in H and as soon as I hit 40 the bike would wind and not go anymore. As soon as I got below 40 or so, the bike would have power again. It's like the clutch or something wasnt shifting or something? (I dont know how the insides work). I put the bike in low and ran around for a while.. About an hour later and prolly 20 miles on, I tried High again. This time it worked and I didnt have a problem anymore.
What could have caused this? Should I bring the bike in? Or see if it happens again?

you will probably have to wait till it happens again......I'm guessing there isn't much they can do now if it is working correctly......hope you don't have any problems when you're 100 miles from home or on a Saturday night/Sunday morning....if it's gonna happen again, that will be the time!

Have your linkage checked at the transmission connection. A freinds Cat 650 was in "L" range even though the shift lever was in the "H" range. Cat has had some problems with this shifter linkage, you may want to have your Dealer check it out.

Sounds like the linkage mentioned above is the first place I'd look. Mine will do 40 -45 mph in low range. It certainly isn't a limp-mode problem. You wouldn't go that fast if it were the case.

i had the same thing happen to my polaris. it ended up being the bearings in my drive clutch (primary clutch) they were not letting the clutch pinch the belt tight enough. ask your dealer to take a look at it , is it under warrenty yet ?
