crf 250 in 250ex
#2
The 250 is shaft drive, and dirt bikes are chain drive, so that isn't going to work. Drop a CRF250 dirt bike engine in a medium size frame (like the 300EX, except lighter), and Honda won't be able to build enought of them!

It will never happen.
The high cost of these hi-po 4 stroke quads are from the engine and not the chassis. Even a 300EX chassis as it is now with the CRF250 engine will run well over $5500 MSRP Thats more than a 400EX and you would dtill have to kick start it.......which has been a killer to 450R sales versus the YFZ.
It doesn't cost Honda any more or less to build a CRF250 engine or a CRF450 engine.
Until the age guidelines are straightened out...........it will never happen because NO ONE would buy one.

Knowsalot-I can see how you might say that from an easterners perspective, but the same rules don't apply out here in the west. This bike would sell well out here. California has to have more sport bike riders than all the rest of the country combined (and more dirt bikers than the whole rest of the WORLD!), and since when does anybody follow age guidelines? This would be a hot bike for smaller adults, advanced kids or the wife, and a great play bike for dad. Light and medium size, it would be a great duner with its high reving engine. The perfect "little brother" to the 450R. And, everybody is kicking over their Banshees, Blasters, and R's, why should they mind kicking over a little 250?
As for price, the freeway is packed every Friday afternoon with $500,000 motorhomes pulling trailers full of bikes, quads, and sand rails. A price up there around $5,500, wouldn't kill the deal! (Short time between top end rebuilds might though!) Plus, out here we have a year round riding season, so the So. Calif. buyer gets to enjoy his investment all winter, while an easterner is out shoveling snow and his expensive bike collects dust in the garage. Makes the investment more tolerable, when you do the math.
My local hills are filling up with CRF250's. Most of the riders are adults who have a big bike as well, but they just want a little bike to play on (or maybe it's dad out riding juniors bike). That is where the market for this class lies.

But do you think it would be possible to throw the engine into a 250x, or get the swingarm, and axle from a 250x, put that on the ex, and then put the crf engine in?
