Default ? about oil change

I am getting ready to do my first oil change. When I go to pull the hose off that runs from the oil tank to the left side of the motor is it going to immediately start draining oil. In other words do I need to be quick about getting the hose over to the oil pan? Just want to be prepared so I make as little mess as possible.

Any other pointers would be helpful.

yep, you will have a mess. it will come out of the hose but just a little bit maybe 4 oz or so. ps. it probably wouldnt hurt to take that nipple off and look at screen.

Thanks. Here are the steps I plan to go through for the oil change

1) Remove hose at motor and let drain.
2) Remove hose and fitting at oil tank and check oil screen
3) Remove oil plug under the motor and let drain
4) Remove oil filter and replace
5) Re-install oil plug and oil hose.
6) Fill with 3 quarts and check level.

Am I missing anthing important?

sound good, unless the X is differnt I just changed my oil and you will need 3.3 qts. when you pull the plug ( both) from the oil tank you might want to have a rag over the a-arm area to catch the dripping other wise it will go all over the a- arms and stering stem and make a mess. the tank holds most of the oil too.

if the first thing you do is pull the hose off, there will be 2qts comming out of that hose. plus a good thing is to buy a 1/4 valve from a hardware store and put it on your tank where the plug is. makes things a lot cleaner.
