Default 2oo3 trail boss 330 shooting gas out at me

<DIV>Hi I have a 2003 trail boss 330. I noticed some smoke coming from the under belly somewhere and upon investigation discovered that it was from gas shooting out my fuel vent hose and running down to the engine. I opened up the gas cap to see if there was excessive presser in there and it seemed ok I lifted the vent hose up so I could see the end of it . Now when I ride it shoots gas out onto the bike and me I can not ride it at all right now because fuel dripping onto a hot engine can't be a good thing.....I read another post on the subject where the person vented their fuel cap the way other companies do. WHAT are some of the possible reasons for this problem ? . Are there vented caps out there that will fit my Polaris ? Does the fuel filter have anything to do with this kind of problem ?

Any info would be appreciated

Thanks PINKMOON</DIV>

if you plug the hose the pressure in the tank wont be right... or something like that... not positive... but it can effect the feul delivery i beleive... they do make small vents that go into the hose... i would look into that... i wish i could help ya as to where to find one but i cant... id talk to your dealer.

Sounds like your needle and seat are leaking or its set too high. That hose is a combination overflow /vent. The 500 HOs have had that problem mostly. If you look between the engine and tranny on alot of HOs you will see where fuel drips enough to stain the aluminium. A few drops here and there seem to be normal.
The amount you describe is definitly not normal, I would say your carb needle and seat needs to be pressure checked and the float height checked.

My first thought was, shoot it back, but that really wouldn't help. Sounds more like a carb problem than vent line. If the venting is shut off, I believe it would starve the carb of fuel. Just to be sure, it is the tube coming from the top of the tank, and not the bottom of the carb, right?

Hi. Thank you for the help. after a week of playing around with the carb i decided to drill out the gas cap and run a IV tube out of it........and it solved the problem. That tiny gauge vent line was just not able to get the job done. By going with the vented gas cap it is able to alleviate the pressure in the fuel tank sufficiently
