Default Ticking Noise 00' 400EX

Can anyone tell me what this is? I have a ticking noise coming from the motor (usually when cold). As it warms, it starts doing it only for short times, just when you rev it. It will do it for a while but after about 30 mins of riding it gets hot and quits doing it most of the time, but still every once and a while it'll start it again. I also have a hard time getting it started in the morning, and once you get it started it kind of sneezes through the carb for a while.
Can anyone help me out please? Thanks alot.

The ticking is the valves or thats what i would think. I would adjust them or take it to your honda dealer to be adjusted.

If it stops when it warms up, it might be piston slap too. But 30 minutes seems kinda long.

Piston slap is caused by excessive clearance around the pistoon. As the piston heats, it expands and the noise usually goes away. A mild case is no big deal. If it was a major problem from wear, you'd probably be smoking and burning a little oil and it would be time for a rebuild.

From what you're saying, I'd try to have the valves adjusted.

i heard a small ticking noise comming from my quad.....i had just rebuilt it and everything was up to spec. I re-adjusted the valves and everything....if its loud it may be from a loose cam chain. Myne isnt that lound and i know everything is fine so its all good
