My DS ran me over!
#1
I went riding last night. Still out in the woods, but on the way home, I was chugging along in 2nd gear making a long sweeping left. The trail is burmed up on the sides. I wasn't paying attention and hit a small stump hidden in some grass. It pitched me off to the right Somehow it didn't flip over on me and somehow the right rear tire ran my head over. Fourtunately, I had my helmet on. The quad was still running and still in 2nd gear. It kept going down the trail and the burmed up sides were kind of steering it. I got up and started running after it, but my boots were heavy in the sugar sand. I couldn't catch up. Finally, way down the trail, it went off the trail and hit a tree. I think a shut off guard is in order.

definatly get a safety kill switch. I ahve a Pro-Design kill/teather switch, it was only like $30 from www.rockymountainatv.com, better than having your quad hit a tree
I'm glad you didn't get hurt!!

No. No video, but my friend who was in front of me said he glanced over his shoulder a couple of times and thought it looked like my quad had no one on it. Then he saw some movement behind it and realized it was a run-a-way! He was laughing. I was gasping for air and brushing the sand off of me and checking my helmet.

mudnuri,
Very glad to hear you and your machine are OK - just imagine what you would feel like if you hadn't been wearing the helmet! I did the running after your quad thing once, it was my Mojave, damn that thing rolled fast downhill! Straight towards a good drop off too! I got lucky and caught it (was on dirt, wearing hiking boot not MX boots) but the damn thing was in gear running so I was trying to stall it by pulling back on it. That sucked but it finally stalled and I got a chance to catch my breath like 40 feet from the drop off.
The tether is so easy to install, and if it saves your butt once then it paid for itself. Just imagine a cliff or car or some other rider crashing into your quad. That $30 switch could easily pay for itself in what doesn't get broken. I've used mine once when I got tossed landing a jump lop sided. I did a cart wheel sort of off to the side landing on my feet but I definatly was not still in the drivers seat. There was just more sand dunes in front of me but the kill switch also meant I didn't have to chase after it or even walk more than a couple steps. It also makes for a nice way to shut off the quad if you have to get off in an emergency. Just pull that tether, it shuts off, and you can run to whatever emergency there is.
