turbo???

i was just wondering if i could get a small turbo off of a car from, say,a junkyard, and put it on my 230.i have seen someone do this to a blaster, but wasnt sure if it could be done on my old quad.would i be able to simply bolt it one with some pipes from lowes,or would i have to do modifications to the engine or carb ?i dont have much money so the cheaper the better.

You CAN do it, but I wouldn't slap a turbo on a trail machine, much less an old 230. 1. the 230 can't take any real amount of boost without frequent crank bearings. 2. the 230 wouldn't spool up until you were at redline 3. Turbo's are complex and a setup without an intercooler isn't a for a trail bike. If it were a big bore drag bike I'd say go for it.

Buy the book by Joe Haile, titled Turbochargers, Superchargers, and Nitrous oxide. It's a great book, I have it. Also, you can't take one off of a car and put it on a 230cc machine. You MIGHT be able to get away with putting a turbo from a very small car onto a 1000cc engine, but without changing the exhaust housing to a more favorable A/R ratio, it probably wouldn't work well until you hit very high RPM's. I have never heard of a turbo for a 230cc machine, you may be able to buy the correct size for that, but it won't come off of a car.

In lamens they go in the exhaust routing and use the wasted exhaust pressure/volume to spin a small turbine. This provides an increase in pressure which is plumbed into the intake. Usually you use an intercooler(same idea as a radiator) to cool the air before the carb because the turbine, and exhaust make it hot. Similar to a supercharger, but it's not parasitic. It takes time to "spool up" as the turbine reaches a high enough rpm to provide boost. They really aren't very practical for atv's, especially ones that are trail ridden.

well the 230 is all I have and its just too slow for me.im looking for a way to make it faster but i am VERY short on money, since im only 15.but if i could get a small turbo i would probly be able to strengthen the internals to take a small boost, say 2-3 psi ?i saw someone do this on a blaster without a wastegate or a blowoff valve, and no intercooler.he said it was a te04h turbo off of a old caravan in a junkyard.i plan on having an intercooler on there though.if there is no way for me to do this, what would you guys suggest for decent power gains at an affordable price.i can do most of the work myself for things like the turbos,u jsut need tp know where to get the supplies.i appreciate all the help guys.

It's not cost effective power. You may as well just do normal bolt ons. Upgrading the internal so they could take even a small boost would cost a few hundred dollars. As for mods i'd shave the head, get the wild cam, TI springs, port the head, lighter piston, larger carb, and of course the obvious things like a pipe and filter.

i was thinking about getting a larger piston,a k&n filter, and a dg pipe.what else could i do for under 150,mabe 200 ?all the cams i have seen where very expensive, anyone know where i could get one cheaper ???
