roots and rocks at speed
#1
what can be done about the suspension on the prarie. I still got mine stock and its ok for smooth trails, but when it gets rough it sucks. I think the weight of the atv dooms it for any kind of fast riding, although I think its the best atv out there. The other atvs must really suck if my 650 is rated good. I may be complaining becues ever since the woods dried up from spring I been in 2wd tryin to motocross in the woods like it was a sport atv. Anyways the rocks and roots are like I was workin a jackhammer. I got atv holeshots and they are a great improvment, I now they have aftermarket shocks
but wondered if they are worth it. I think what I am sayin Is going fast is fun in the prarie up to a point,
but it goes far faster than the suspension will allow and can anything be done about it.

You could talk to Yann at Elka about two stage progressive springs for the front. I ride rocks too here in the mountains and I don't find it to be a big problem. I use 25" mudrunners and elka front springs.

I do XC racing with my P650 and in my first race this year (GNCC in TX), I quickly discovered that the P650 motor far outruns its suspension! I have progressive springs on the front and they are a good improvement, but the reality is that the P650 still does not handle like a sport quad over the rough stuff and also in the tight, twisty turns on a XC course.
I don't know what else I can do about improving my suspension (other than to try Elka springs instead of my progressives...but I don't think it would be a significant difference). However, I have resolved to make my P650 handle sharp turns a little better by mounting 22" sport quad tires on my P650. Right now, I have 2 rear V-force wheels mounted on my P650 and I'm waiting for a new set of 11" rims and 22" tires to arrive at my house next week so I can try them out. I'll report back after I get a chance to ride them and see if it handles the sharp turns any better than my 25" bearclaws do.

I know how you feel. I have the Elka springs up front at the softest settings. I only bottom out on the slow technical rough stuff. I run the 26" atr and keep lowering the psi to get more comfort. When I had the rears @ 3psi on my 25" atr's it was better but harder to throw the rear around. They hook up well.
The progressive springs are a straight rate 600lb coil. The elka's are a dual spring setup with a 600lb and a shorter 80lb spring. It think I am correct on the short spring rate. Don't remember well. I like them over stock. The short softer spring takes up the smaller anoying stuff. I still have to take some pre load off my rear spring. It's still at the OE setting.
I ride with a Rincon that has ATR's. I am a better fast rider than he but on the tight, hard, rough, rutted, root laden terrain I get beat to death trying to keep up while he dissapears in cadilac like comfort. I love my P650 but if that Rincon had a locking front, a better tranny, larger racks and a smooth running motor as strong as the P, I might be tempted.

I adjusted rear spring pre load & for me it made a huge difference in the rough trails at speed. I backed it all the way off. I'm light in weight & only carry guns & light tools on back rack. I mostly ride my own trails & pull a small trailer. Its not beating to death now to fly over the rough, where before adjust I was being punished. Brushog
