Default Need some ideas on this DS, Im lossing far to often!

Alright guys heres my problem, So far ever quad I have raced but 1(a warrior so that does'nt count)I have lost to, the list goes like this, a stock kfx700, a stock Raptor, a piped kfx400!, several piped and ??? Banshee's(one alky so I wont even mention it) it just seems with my mods I should at least be able to hang with these guys, probably beat them.

So where do I start to look for a problems. What should my compression be, I havent checked that yet, maybe needs rerung and could this be the cause my weak DS. I just adjusted the valves there alright, I have it jetted to where it seems to have the most power.

My mods are as listed below. Any help, PLEASE!! There are only 2 DS's out here and mine is given the other guy a bad rap, oh ya his run's great, panks most everyone around and he has the same mods as me.

I really appreciate all of the help you guys have given me so far.

Cams, carburetor Lectron HV46mm, HD valve and clutch springs, get intake manifold ported, Hi compression piston. If you got more money have the head work on. For about $5000.00 you can get an EFI with turbo. some more queston for you are you talking about drag racing, and what and what type of tires due you have on?

If a piped 400 is faster then you have something way wrong. What does one of your plugs look like? Are you racing on sand or hard pack? What gearing and tire are you running? Something is way wrong bud...

Try learning how to ride.

Just kidding. Are you sure you're jetted right? You should be much fast than most of those quads.

What tires are you running would be a big question. I would hope not those horrible ones that came with the 01 DS those were the worst. Also have you tried taking off in second gear instead of first if it is loose terrain second will work much better? What size main jet are you running?

MongoDS, gearing and tires are everthing to the DS. What are you running and what surface are you racing on? I have the FMF Ti-4, CDI, jetting, gearing, the best tires, and a few little tweaks. I outweigh alot of the people I have raced and I haven't found a stock bike that can beat me yet. Some stage 2's are having trouble as well.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies as far as all of your questions here we go

Gearing-15t front in the sand, 16t front on hard packed and stock rear with both.

Tires- Sand 22" Dune Runner rears(which I really like) 20" Raz'r 2's everywhere else

Jetting- 190 Main jet, needle on third from top(again this is where it seams to run the best)the altittude here is around 4500-5000 ft.

Yes I do start off in second

Thanks again and I hope this helps you help me. I really like the DS it suits me very well, I just wish I could figure this out,it is kind of embarrassing I am tired of hearing all these people tell me I THOUGHT THOSE WERE FAST? so you can see why I am so angry.

And another thing you Bomb guys rock! I tried to get some help with my father-in-laws Mojave and I got one replie from the Kawie boys.

I would think your problem lies with your sand tires. Here is a link of the Kenda Dune Runner . If I remember correctly the height of the individual paddle is very small when compared to the paddles on skat trak haulers. I would not be surprised if your are just over powering your paddles.

These drag races that your a losing are they up hill? flat drag? Sand or dirt?

If you want to drag and win then as was said before, tires and gearing will mean everything. You need to look at two different Paddles to get the power to the ground, and then decide which one you like better: Skat Trak 8 paddle extreme haulers in a 22" size. Sand Tires Unlimited Competition Cut Padla Brats from Fullerton Sand Sports. (I like the Padla Brats)

The gearing being a 15 tooth sounds about right, you said you are running a #190 main jet? Is that a Mikuni or Dyno jet? If that is a mikuni #190, at 4500 - 5000 feel I would be willing to bet you are VERY RICH! Most people will need a #170 - 175 mikuni main depending on elevation etc. Since you are at higher elevation I'd bet a #170 is about right. That being said, if you've got a mikuni jet in there, then I'm suprised you aren't fowling plugs left and right. Now if you've got a dynojet jet in there, this is a whole seperate story.

How many RPMs are you turning when you launch? You'll want to be around 7000 - 8000 so that you get a really good hit otherwise you'll be playing catch up the entire race. (Be careful if you've never launched that way - if the tires hook up more than you expect, you could end up with the front end in the air, though with the Dune Runners I dont think you will have that problem.)

Do you have a buddy in the local area that you can practice with? Ideally you want someone who isn't changing anything on their ATV so that you can see what a change you make does to your drag racing performance.

Lastly: Who ever spends the most money will almost always win the drag race. (Nothing is 100%, but this is close!)

I am using Dynojet jets, maybe I need to start over again with a 170 like you said.

Everyone I have raced I have raced on the flat and uphill.

I tried the dune runners thinking that the haulers blades would be to tall and bog down my engine, they seem to work good, but then again I have not ever used haulers and maybe the dune runners are not as good as I thought.

I dont have a tach so not realy sure of my rpm's( where is a good place to find a kit with everything I need for a tach )

Maybe it is me I am no pro rider, but I rode this other guys DS with the same mods and it felt like a totally different machine, way more power I have just been sicking him on the guys that tell me the DS is slow.

Thanks again
