Default 04 Sportsman 500 HO problem

I was out riding yesterday and my Sportsman just stopped running. It is getting gas, all power looks good, turns over just fine but won't even think about starting. I replaced the spark plug today just in case, but that did not help. I am new to this ATV, but I would assume that if I remove the spark plug, put the wire on it and ground it to the engine or frame the spark plug will spark. Is this correct? It does not spark. If I am correct I am thinking either the coil or the CDI unit went bad. Any thoughts?

You got gas and compression, but no spark when grounding the spark plug to the engine? Sound slike you are on the right track. Coil or CDI

CHeck the fuse to the battery, or the coil. I don't think its the CDI though. Make sure all of you wires are connected correctly, and your battery has juice. Thats all of i can think of.

I don't mean to be funny, but being new to that quad, did you by accident hit the
kill switch???

I am not that new to the quad, lol. Yes I checked the kill switch. I checked all the connections, they look good. I think I am going to try the coil.

Keep tryin! IT has to be the coil, but you never know, it could be something unobvious.

Fortunately I have 2 of these things so I took the plug out of the other one and tested it for spark on the engine, it sparked like a big dog. I then tested the power coming out of the CDI and it is giving juice to the coil. I think that must be it. Lo and behold the frickin coil for this thing is $120.

Hey anybody know any good parts suppliers on the internet?

how many hours do you have on the machine. usually around 15 hours the coil will come loose from the vibration on some of the 500s.
