Arctic Cat 650 Clutch Trouble
#1
I hope someone here can help me with my problem , my belt yelps and squeels coming down hils under compression. It started doing it first when I hit dips coming downhill, then progressed till it was squeeling constantly. I only have 500 miles on it. I have heard Arctic Cat has a clutch update for belt slipping and wearing out prematurely. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I haven't heard of any clutch updates. It sounds like your belt needs adjusting. The dealer can do it for you or you can do it yourself. All that needs to be done is check the belt deflection (tension) and take out shims to corrrect it. While they (or you) are in there, install an EPI clutch spring. You'll be glad you did ! i put in an epi clutch kit with the pink primary and the black secondary and stayed with the stock weights and this is working real well for me, quick smooth engagement and i can still do the slow technical stuff my dyna tec cdi is supposed to be here this week, tommorrow come to think of it
dealer says nothing i am running should void my warranty as they suggested the clutch kit
but they did not warrenty the belt when is slipped and needed to be replaced, that burned me

Doesn't putting different springs in the clutch, and adding other stuff like the aftermarket cdi box void the warrenty?

I would say that depends on your dealer. Mine was not the first 650 that he put the EPI spring in. He likes what is does for them and feels it improves a rather lame factory set-up. Same with the CDI. He understands why I put it in (frustration with waiting for Arctic cat to get off their *ss) and he's kinda P.O.'ed at AC also for the way they've handled this. As far as he's concerned, I've done nothing to void my warrranty.
I also kept the stock spring and CDI if I ever have any serious warranty issues where the factory needs to be involved.

EPI stands for Erickson Performance Inc
I run the same set-up as Pockets. Also tried the EPI red secondary and a stock Prairie 700 primary spring, but settled on my current combo.

your us would be diff than my can funds, i paid for a clutch kit, but you only need the pink primary and the black secondary and keep your stock weights, the springs are listed on epi's website, my stock weights makes the engagement very smooth and stays engaged at really low rpm's which is what i want , yet if you give it throttle it performs very well. my dyna tec cd should be here tommorow and the dealer says that what i have so far should not void my warranty, but they did not warrenty the belt after it slipped and had to be replaced at under 300 miles,
so i am a lot more careful about my speeds and low range and am faster to pull out the winch now.
