300EX Tire Question
#1
I just bought a used 2001 300EX and the balloon tires are driving me crazy! The stock tires size is
22-10-9. What size tires will fit on my stock 300EX rim? Will the 400Ex's tires fit on them (20-10-9)? I just really want to get rid of these tires without getting an aftermarket rim. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The 400ex tires would work fine, I put 20" Titan Fast Trekkers from Nebraska Tire, they are blems, for 25 bucks apeice + shipping. If you put 20" tires on the back, you will need to put a 14 tooth sprocket up front to keep the gearing right. You will love the handling of the flatter lower tires, really makes it turn and slide nice.

They always sell at that price, the only thing is they buff the names off the tires, something about not being a licenced dealer, but if that doesn't bother you, my son loves them, and they look great and wear really good.

what happens if you dont put a 14 tooth sprocket up front? If its just going to be a loss in top speed, that isnt a big deal to me. I am more concerned with possibly over reving the engine or always being into the rev-limiter. I have a 300ex and will soon be putting on 20" radials from a 400ex.

Thanks again 95wolv! I looked at the Fast Trekkers and they seem pretty nice but I am wondering if anyone had experience with the Bandits because they come in the same size as the Trekkers. But I am definitly sure about getting the tires from Nebraska Tire. Thanks.

Crazy300ex,
If you put 20" tires on and don't put a 14 tooth up front, you will hit the rev limit way too soon, and have to shift all the time, and your top end will suffer badly, not being able to rev out. My son's ran like crud, sputtering all the time, was way slower, the 14 tooth put it right back into the right gear, and it ran fine.
Hondaguy, the Bandit is a great tire, but too heavy for a 282 cc motor, trust me, the Trekker is the way to go for traction and handling.

The sprockets are very cheap and easy to replace, In the Dennis Kirk catalog, I saw a JT 14 tooth sprocket for only $10 bucks, and I think you can pick one up for even cheaper at Rocky Mountain ATV. They should be no problem to get.
