9 and 12 year old bike?
#1
Please help! I need other people's experience and suggestions!
What would everyone suggest as far as an ATV for a 9 year old boy and a 12 year old girl. Dad rides a 2004 Polaris Sportsman 500 and Mom rides a 2004 Yamaha Kodiak 450. We mostly do trail rides and some bird hunting. I (mom) thought a kids ATV would be the best option because as a mother I don't want them to be on something too big. The dad wants to get a smaller adult ATV because he thinks they can handle it. The have driven both of ours but only when we are on behind them. Ours are far too big for kids. He is thinking something along the lines of a 350. They will never be riding alone and will stay between the two of us when we go anywhere.

I belive every atv has a built in governer.. it is the screw on the throttle box.. u just tighten that and u cant full rev it.. id suggest something aroudn teh means of a 350 like you said maybe a warrior or something

A Warrior is well suited for them they have a built in governor in the throttle box just turn the screw in and limit the speed to your liking and the warrior is almost maintanence free and will last fof well over a few years until they are old enough for a bigger quad.

i agree with DS650BajaRunner in a year or so if it hasn't allredy happened your 12 yeor old is going 2 hit a groth spurt and the yuth atv's will be to small for him ( at 12 i was biger than my mom )

It depends on their size... a Raptor 80 is about right for a 9yo... a suzuki lt160 is about right for the 12yo. I taught my niece how to ride her first shifting quad on the lt160, and she had it under control in about 40 min. to include when/how to use reverse. The neighbor boy is about 9 and he has a lil raptor 80, and that seems to suit him about perfect. My buddy is just about to buy one for his lil 9yo girl as well. She's kinda out grown the lil 50cc that they have for her now... (she also has a lil Honda 70 Dirtbike... but the motor is in the shop getting bored out.)

It appears as though you are buying one ATV for the two kids correct? That is an accident waiting to happen IMO. I doubt that they will both be able to ride a child size quad at the same time. Does Yamaha still make the Beartracker? That might be a good starter.

i think they should go wit ha utility instead of a sport quad for the fact that even most xperienced riders hate using clutches oan trails and with young children and girls.. i mena those clutcehs will btoast i na day (no offense) and dang m i tired.. i am to tired to do spell check SO don't hassle me!

Sport or Utility choose something safe for the little ones so the ride can be more enjoyable.
