I dont understand how it all works, but I was led to believe that the ICM controlls the CDI? If anyone cares to elaborate on this and/or correct me, please do!

The CDI, from what I understand, will eliminate the Limp mode problem. I think it's because it doesnt look at the belt switch? Is this correct?

i got them both i am gonna sell my hl module for all that does is sends a false signal to the cdi to i believe it would be to advance the timing to give ya more horespower and the dynatek will eliminate the hump mode and give ya more power and make it run cooler if you want the hl module i will sell ya mine for 75 dollars which i paid i think 114 after everything is said and done

I have a Dynatec CDI on order as well. It re-maps the timing curve, ignores inputs from the speed sensor, raises the rev limiter, loses the reverse rev limiter, and loses the limp mode.

All the hole-shot-type modules (there are several) do the same thing. They interupt the signal from the speed sensor to the stock ignition box. The stock ignition retards the timing to -22 degrees when when the bike is going slower than 10 or so mph.

Although I don't own a 650, I am still interested in this topic, are there any disadvantages of the CDI's? For examlpe, do they effect the life of the engine, gas miledge, or anything else?

if anything catter i believe that it would extend the life of the engine for a smoother running engine will not only run cooler and use less fuel but will last longer if timed correctly ARCTIC retarded the timing basically for safety purposes cause alot of ppl who can't handle the power buy this machine thats what i get from all the arcticles i have read so maybe afterall ARCTIC does care about our safety???? but i have not heard of any negative effects as of yet i have had my dynatek cdi installed for about 300 miles and i love it and the highlifter module for about 600 (even though the hl module does not do anything after the cdi was installed just to lazy to uninstall it)
