jetting question

Default jetting question

i have a hmf slip on, no air box lid and a soon to come notoil air filter. what do u suggest for jetting. the carb is stock except for a 165 mj. is it okay to stay with the 165 or not?

It all depends. Does it run rich/lean at all not? You may have to go up a size. I'd run it for a while and check the plug.(After the motor has colled of course)

if you just want a general idea if you have to change the jetting let it warm up and run it wide open for a minute then pull the clutch and let it coast to a stop, pull your plug, if its white your lean if its blackyour rich. this is just to give you a good idea.

I'd let the head cool before pulling he plug, to let the aluminum cool and contract.

also what other things could i change in my carb (needle, etc.) that would make it run better or isnt that necessary

From what I understand the pilot jet is for idle to 1/4 throttle, the needle is for 1/4 to 1/2, and after that it's all main jet. This may not be 100% correct.
