well a 17 tooth front sprocket would be very close if not the same as when i had a stock 16 tooth front sprocket and 22 bearlaws on rear and it is very very fast first gear 4th gear was 117km/h and when u were wound on on a highway or something it did 83mph at 6900rpms's so no u dont have much bottom end

i run 16t and 22" all the time on my ds, bottom end isn't bad, first gear is a little bit fast but i like it, makes wheelies easier

When My bike was stock I tried 22in rear tires with 17 tooth front sprocket it didn’t have enough power at the top end it felt a little flat and the bottom end went away as well.

For the sand you better have some serious HP.

I've run the 17 before and can see using it in flat sand area with higher HP but, if you don't I don't think you'll like the results.

Ive Always run a 17 But I dont run 22s in the rear ... Just not enough ponies to pull that combo.
Ill see what happens when I get my new Lectron setup !

I like the low end and high end on my setup ( remember 20" rears not 22s ) Great hole shot in 2nd and my top end doesnt seem to suffer at all. But for riding on the track I never see the top of 5th so thats not a big deal. Depending on how and where you ride will/should determin what combo you run!

If you like to run the drags or the hills drags all the time and dont do much else than go with the 16 or better yet the 15. That will bring gears 3-4-5 into play more. That makes better sence because they are closer in ratio and you can shift into the next gear without getting such a huge drop in rpms. You want to keep the rpms up durring a race cuz thats where the horsepower is being made right ? Granted now youll want to make sure you have 22s on the rear.

NOTE: Even the high$ DS boys out there dont run the 17 up front and god knows they can pull it.

I would say a good argument for not running a 17 is that it takes away the space between the sprocket and the case.

just my .02$

When I put the 17 on, I had to grind at he case saver. On the flats it works OK, I have not tried it in the sand yet.

go the other way 15 seems to be a better all around choice. 17 is very tall and unless you desert race you probably wont see much of 5th
