2005 Yamaha Kodiak 450
#1
Hi, I'm new here. I got my 05 Yamaha 450 Kodiak with IRS last week. I've only clocked 5 hours on it so far but I LOVE it! It's a sweet machine. Number 1 it is easier to steer than other 4-wheelers I've rode. Living in Colorado, there are lots of hills, ravines and washouts that are hard to maneuver other bikes through without the handlebars jerking out of my hands. But the Kodiak is easier to steer and I can keep the bike where I want it to go.
Number 2 the throttle is easier to push in and hold without getting a cramp in my hand.
And number 3 the IRS is awesome and stablizes the machine through ravines and washouts.
Now that I have my Yamaha Kodiak I won't ride any other bike-PERIOD.
My boyfriend has a 2004 Yammi 660 with IRS and he like the feel of my 450. I think in the back of his mind (he'd never admit it) he wishes he had got a 450 instead. I've ridden his 660 and like the solid feel but for maneuverability the 450 is my choise in bikes.
But then, I'm just a GIRL

I also entered the wheeler world yesterday by purchasing a 2005 Kodiak 450. Can't wait to put some hours on it in the woods. Paid $6099 but it was the first one the dealer here in Russellville received. I rode the grizzly but chose the kodiak. It was a little lower and appeared more suited to technical riding.

Linen53,
Welcome to the forum, it's always nice to have new members, expecially females. The ladies always seem to give a different perspective on their quad than guys. Glad you like the Kodiak. I was going to get one but decided on the Grizzly because of the IRS. Now that the Kodiad has it I am going to get my wife one.

Regor, I paid $5,699 for mine. Got it at Fremont Motorsport in Florence, Colorado. They are the #1 seller in Colorado, Kansas and Wyoming. Their bikes are cheaper but you don't want to buy accessories from them because that's where they make up the difference. Maybe you might want to take a little trip to Colorado to buy yours
Nukerider, I couldn't wait to get some MUD on mine!!
Beefmasters, I will return and give more of a report. Unfortunately, my boyfriend and I have to travel to NM this weekend for a wedding so I won't get any riding time in this weekend, but we plan to take them out the following weekend.
Starky, Yeah, ladies do give a different perspective on the riding ability of bikes. A lot of guys buy the smaller Kodiaks for their wifes/girlfriends. I can't tell you how easy mine is to ride. A 8 year old kid who was used to driving his dads 600 Kaw tried mine and was thrilled with the maneuverability of mine. He didn't want to get off!!

I am dying with anticipation. Down here in NJ we have to wait for our new '05 Kodiak 450's. I have one on order to be delivered this month, August, and will pay the list of $6100. I feel that even at that price it is a unit chock full of user friendly features and fun. I am buying it to work on my property as well as tearing up the trails. I'll check in with my take when I get some miles under my belt.

Guys, I have never owned an ATV, but have property that will require one sooner or later. I have seen nothing but good stuff written about the Kodiak 450 and am about to pull the trigger on one. Does it have plenty of power to work small food plots too? Also, do you have insurance on it, and what does it cost?
Thanks in advance!

The kodiak is a really cool little machine. I have a moster Griz, but sometimes it would be nice to have a smaller quiter machine to zip around on. With the IRS, the kodiak is going to be totally awesome. It will have no problem getting up technical stuff just like the griz. It may not launch off the top 4' off the ground, but I probably shouldn' t be doing that with my griz anyway. I am hoping to buy a Kodiak for an extra machine for my friends and family to ride. Girls who like quads are cool!
