Default Total carb tuning noob..uhmm...help? lol(Mojave)

Is there a web site around for carb tuning tips? I just ditched the gigantor stock airbox snorkel setup for a UNI two stage clamp on filter and need to know where to start with the idle fuel mixture screw, needle setting, and I've got the next 3 sizes of mains sitting in my garage waiting for me to figure out what to do with them lol. I've got a service manual so doing the mechanical part/getting at the parts isnt the issue. The bike won't start now without holding the throttle in a little, so I'm assuming I have to start by richening the idle air mixture up. After that I'll up the main a couple sizes and see how it runs

You're on the right track by going richer. All the new ATV's and bikes come jetted lean to help meet air quality standards. Since you eliminiated the air intake system and went clamp on your quad is going to suck a lot more air making it far more lean than stock. Start with the richest jet you have and work backwards until it runs well. I believe Kawkerman did the same type of mod so he could help you with jetting. You might consider a 400EX carb as I hear they really wake the Mojave up on bottom end.

Heres an article on jetting, and it has the symptoms of lean and rich. I think this is what youre looking for.

If you're near sea level I'd try a 140 main first with the clamp-on. You may later want to go up 1 size each on the pilot and starter jets after you get the main circuit going OK to help out with the initial stumble a little. (It won't solve it altogether)

I'm running a 134 main in a stock carb with a Dial-a-Jet and a K&N clamp-on and it work awesome. The only issue is the off-idle stumble....
A 400 EX carb or Mikuni is supposed to help this. Greg at CWR can give you some good advice....

Yea, I ended up using a 140 as a matter of fact. I spent the better part of one afternoon a couple days ago trying stuff and it's running pretty good. At least I learned one more thing about the bike.
