YFZ 450 camshaft replacement
#1
I have a 04 yfz and was thing of doing a camshaft upgrade. I have a few questions. Will the camshaft make a big improvement? WIll it be worth the money (almost $500)? Will it effect the reliability of the bike? And can I use my stock piston or do I need a high compression piston instead? Any help would be great.

You can buy the cams for $250 or so. I guess you are having someone else do the work if it's coming to $500. Might be an ok idea first time out. He should let you watch and learn about your bike.
They make a big improvement yes.
It won't affect reliability at all but it will affect mileage. They are designed to clear the stock pistion.

go buy a trailtech -4 flywheel first. Then when your done with that and if you still want more then regear to your type of riding. What type of riding do you do?
I would say that the trailtech flywheel will give you 2-3 quad lengths in a 300' drag. Not bad for how cheap and easy it is.
the cams are going to give you about 2 hp. I hear thats the most.

I do all my riding at the dunes and I am looking for all around power. I hear the cams make a huge difference and just wanted to be sure it was worth the money.
