Default Stock Carb and mods - wow! let me explain

Ok..... you all know that BigDaddy is a straight shooter. I am very honest and I call a sucker a sucker, and a racer a racer.

If you've been around here a while, you know that I've had a TM45 and up until Last Week a Lectron 46HV.

I recently went back to the stocker in hopes of more comfort when riding with the 6 & 10yr old. My stock carb has had a couple of hours on the dyno, and was singing pretty good. It had the RWR CDI and Big Gun exhaust along with the carb-mount filter. Over time I went to a high compression piston, and an intake cam (with different carbs). Also went to a RWR moddified pipe (Props to my good pal Mario). The stock jetting in our carbs is (I believe 165). After the dyno session, It was perfect with the first mods at 180.

Since then we have learned that the snorkle gives makes velocity, and that there is an improvement over the carb mount. When I went back to my stocker this weekend, I decided to go up from 180 to 185. Thinking that I've got to be pulling more air, I figured that a small step up was needed. - WRONG. I'm now up to 190 and still climbing. Not even sure how much HP I lost going back to the Stocker. Obviously, I won't make as much as the Lectron over the entire curve, but I'm thinking that I'm not doing to bad at around 6500rpm which is about where my sled runs up the hill in 3rd.

Idles like silky smooth pig snott and there is absolutely NO hesitation and or popping at any throttle position.

Pure bliss - again.....

I found that after the end cap mod i have had to go to a 180 which is bigger than recomended. its runnin fine but unfortanatly i dont have a dyno that will take a quad near here, i was thinking of gettin a sniff test done on the exaust to see where its at but i dont know how good this would work as the engine would not be loaded just reving free.

I have a couple of bigger jets i could try as the plug chop still shows a light plug, the bike is stock apart from the cap

It must be suckin a lot of air

"whats your point" point is its good to share experiance it all helps us in the quest for better performing machines

Are you using dynojet jets??If that is a mikuni 180 with everything else stock is is either rich, the air cleaner fell off or you got one good breathing machine. The dynojets are appr. 10 off. 180dynojet= 170 mikuni. I have been told there are conversions. Blackhawk can tell ya where.

Everything except the end cap of coarse. I think Mr. HP recommends either moving the needle to the fifth position with the stock jet or goint to the 170 mikuni at sea level.

Ita a mikuni

started stock at 165 went 170 with the cap lean big time, tried a 175 still alittle lean (white plugs) im on the 180 now
I have a 177.5 and a 182.5 but they aint been in yet the plug is still a bit on the light side but its running better and it dont heat up as much so i must be on the right track ,, I would still like to get a gas analasis done to see how close it is

Perfect tuning is indeed a splendid thing

I should also add im running so close to sea level i somtimes get the wheels wet

The point....... just providing some exerience and knowledge.

Not many run a Stage 2 with the stock carb..... That's the point.

Yes, I too run the Mikuni jets and Yes, I'm at a 190 and still a little lean. I'm thinking that a 192.5 or 195 maybe the ideal set up. Needle seems to like where it's at, but once I get the top end fueling done, I'll start to mess with the needle.

Blue, where is your needle at??

Bigdaddy, I think chirochris was the only one confused at the post. What were the dyno runs with the stage 2 but running the stock carb. (hp/torque #'s)vs. the lectron?

I think its at the second richest position right now, i have moved it about a lot i usualy only change jets at home but i will make needle adjustments at the beach, as long as it isnt to windy
