Default What's with the new OMF wheel ad in Dirt Wheels?

Who are they cutting on in their Sept. Dirt Wheels advertisment on page 149? The say "Scalloped Reinforcing Rings - Don't settle for a copy of a 20 year old design which it made in a foreign county, installed by people who can't weld and think clear silicone is part of the welding process.

Are they talking about ITP T-9 Baja's? All the other types of wheels I've seen using reinforcing rings are welded. I just bought a pair of T-9's (2nd pair actually, the first set had one wheel come with two valve stem holes and the other had a slight wobble). My new Baja's have clear silicone applied to the welds. Anyone know for sure?

I run the OMF Beadlocks and have never found a Better wheel! The wheels are made to order and the welding is perfect! You can tell they take pride in there work. The T-9 baja are a massed produced product from overseas. The outside top of the rims is folded over the ring and I believe they use silicone behind the ring? You can really tell when you set the two side by side, the craftsmanship is weak on the ITP when compared to OMF. Remember OMF are hand made to order! I own a set of T-9 baja and for what they are there not all that bad. I think OMF just doesn't like being compared to the T-9s and I think because of price they sometimes are! A LOT of riders don't know the difference? But if quality is what your looking for? The OMF are far superior and they are priced that way. ~coop

I've not seen the OMF wheels in person so I can't comment on the quality. I am not overally impressed with my new T-9 Baja's. The reinforcement rings are not perfectly flat as they have a slight "wave" to them. Originally I was going to buy similar wheels from James Lucky but after comparing prices to them, OMF's and the Baja's the ITP's were slightly cheaper. I was thinking that rolling the edge of the rim onto the ring was a better, stronger way to make a wheel since you don't have all that extra heat from welding. I'm guessing that ITP's manufacturing techniques may not be as good as they could be. I don't even know where they are made. I was assuming they were manufactured in the USA since the ITP website lists a California address. Does anyone know for sure?

The Carlisle / ITP T-9 baja are a massed produced overseas. ITP is owed by Carlisle, The largest ATV tire and Wheel Company. They also own a BUNCH of other Companys, Like Dayco Belts that are talked about here online and eveything from Roofing to Cookware! There the 5000lb Gorllia with over 2 BILLION in sales!

OMF are made to order by a few really good welder dudes in California, using Douglas
190. rims and have been making beadlocks and Reinforced off road wheels since 1982.

Thanks for the good info. I won't be purchasing another set of ITP wheels. I ordered my through a Tucker Rocky distributor and wasn't able to inspect them in person since they didn't stock any. Live and learn.
