i have an 04 X , and i think the 22's will rub the guards
because they shortened the swingarm this year.
looking to buy 22's soon but not if they rub
should i loose the heal guards?

I have an '05 DS, which is the same as the '04. My 22" Bandit XCTs cleared no problem, but my 22" paddle tires very lightly scuffed the heelgaurd with big jumps off of dunes, on the first ride. After the first ride I was due to adjust the chain, and since tightening the chain (which moves the rear axle back) I have not had the 22" paddle tires rub at all, and I have not trimmed the outer plastic ears off of the heelgaurds either.
That was before I removed the heelgaurds altogether to save weight, but it still applies.

I run 22X11X10 extremes. Have had them since August 03 and have had no problems with rubbing. I have the stock heel guards and just recently cut them, only because I wanted to change the look, not because of rubbing.

They are made by Pure Sport, and they are similar in strength to Holeshot XCT. They have better forward grip in mud and in sand, but do not have as much lateral grip on hard pack. I got mine at actionoffroad.com .

I Have 22" Razr 2's on the Rear of my 04 X on the stock rims and have never rubbed the heal guards.
They are great. I geared down 1 tooth in front and with the 22" I still picked up on top end.
