GPS Questions

I've got a Garmin Vista. It's awesome, with all of the bells and whistles. They've dropped a lot in price on ebay now that the Vista C (color) is out. The new one has color screen and better battery life.
They both have full topo capability with more memory than you'll ever use with a quad. The barametric altimiter is nice, too. It's small and light, and you should be able to find a bar mount for it, although I don't have one. I chose it for backpacking, because it was highly rated for that. I often put it in my camel back just for curiosity while riding, and I have a dash mount that helps see progress on trips.

I use my Lowrance GlobalNav 200. Its kind of old but it does the trick. Used it up north a bunch to figure out which way was home. Its got a speedo too so that's nice.
Youd likely be better off with a newer one because mine is a bit bulky and out of date.

I have the yellow Garmin, just your basic GPS mainly made for hunting and hiking. I doesn't have enough memory for trail riding. If I ride more than like 40 miles the tracks start to erase themselves from the begining. I wish I had a Vista or a Legend.

Garmin and Magellan seem to be the most common and make plenty in a wide price range. From when I was researching people said a lot of good things about both, but some complained about losing a signal under heavy canopy with Garmins (I'm not saying this from experience, I've never used one myself). I went with the Magellan SporTrak Pro because I wanted something affordable that does maps as well for travelling. I ride through heavy woods with it wrapped in a protective case inside a fanny pack and have not had it lose signal once.
