400EX oil
#1
What's the best oil I can get for my 04' 400EX? I mostly ride trails and sand a few times a year. take good care of it and I always change my oil before every 20 hrs. I don't have any mods done to it but maybe a few in the future. I don't know if this stuff matters too much but any repplies would be appreciated.

I use to use Hondas GN4 but I didn't much care for it. I just switched to Mobil 1 MX4T and so far so good. At 8$ a quart I won't be changing it as much........

Depending on the brand of oil, there is usually a clear strip on the side of the bottle, with numbers on it that can be used to tell how much oil you have poured. You will need a long neck spout of some kind.
When you drain both your sump and crankcase (the bolt on the side of the engine), the sump will not hold the full amount of oil (it will overflow!) when you first fill it. I put in about 1.8 qtz., then I start the engine for a minute to let the oil pump fill the cranckase, oil cooler, and filter. Stop the engine, then add the rest of the oil. With an oil filter change and cranckase, it takes more like 2.1 qtz.
Check your oil often, and check it on a warm engine that has sat for a few minutes.
