trx300 transmission whine
#1
When I start up and my bike starts to idle for a few seconds, the transmission starts to whine fairly loud, but if i ease up maybe 1/8th of an inch on the shifter this stops. The sound doesnt seem to be hurting anyone, just wandering what it may be and if it will hurt it in the long run?

my 94 trx 300 did the same thing and it was the clutches at first i ignored it butt then it got worse so i took it to the dealer to have them fix it when they took it apart all the clutches and friction plates were worn out and with the clutch not engaing all the way the teeth on the gears were starting to get worn so every time i would try to get spee the gears would spin it costed over a $1000 dollers to fix it so STOP driving it be 4 u have to replace the whole tranny.

I talked to a good honda mechanic today and before i could finish my sentence, he chimed in and told me all about my problem, even told me what the noise sounded like. Says he's worked on 300's before, replaced clutch one way bearing, the works and still the whine existed. This has definately given me some peace of mind, but i will keep watch on the noise.---your right trailblazer, i just traded my 300ex for the fourtrax 300 and i love it! no more chain, bearing, reverse procedure worry. a true beast!

Well i dont know about the hmm...uuuu....but it does sound like the internal components, are spinning, while in neutral. But when i put it in gear this stops, another reason i was convinced by the mechanic cause he told me this would happen. I would say the sound is coming more from the side of the engine in front of the shaft.
