Dissapointed in this forum

I'm new to the forum having been directed here by someone who thought I could get help with a mechanical question. I have posted my question twice and not 1 time has anyone bothered to offer help with my mechanical question; I've not received one single response to either of my posts. I'm very disappointed. It seems like some sort of "chatter room" where all people are concernec about is how their ATV's "look" or how fast they go, or which is the "best", etc. There seems to be nobody here who knows anything more about them than where to put the gas in to make them run. Where can a guy go to get a mechanical question answered??

All the questions were about 80's machines.
If you are looking for a mechanic try all forums.
If people knew the answer to your question most would answer.
If you have not noticed yet forums are a way of talking about what is going on now.
About mods on machines in the last few years and what is popular and what is new. Just like it was in the 80's.
If you want info on 20 year old machines try a different forum or newsgroup.
Don't blame a forum for not answering some off the wall question.

atvpainter- How many people have you helped since you've joined? You have 7 post right now. You must have helped at least 5 people by now.
Sometimes people act like there should be a professional atv mechanic on standby. Like it's our jobs to cater to every question that is posted. The members are people just like you that share a common interest. That interest just happens to be atv's. There are many members on this forum but it doesn't mean that there will be an answer for every question. It also doesn't mean that the answers will always be correct. People just may not know the answer. The person that does know the answer might be working, on vacation, sleeping, riding atv's, or just doesn't feel like answering.
If you need a fast and correct answer to your problems then hire a mechanic. It's not our jobs to jump to your every whim.
Now if you want to join in and maybe help or learn along the way. Then you're welcome. But don't whine because you didn't get an answer to your very first questions.

ATVPainter,
You have an older machine and I believe the 350 model was only sold in Canada. I could be wrong. But I don't think there are many folks out there that know all that much about your machine due to it's age.
As far as your question about removing the starter you answered it yourself. If there isn't room to wiggle it out, keep unbolting things untl you make room to get it out. Sounds like that means taking the head pipe off based upon what you said in your post.
Also, you could certainly take some digital photos of your bike and post them in your gallery page where people could look at the problem and offer advice.
The lack of answers to your question has nothing to do with the knowledge on this forum. Heck we have people visiting here who were on the first Honda Factory race teams and some of the best mechanics in the world are here. Give it some time and be patient. Also, keep in mind you're posting during the day on a saturday and sunday when most people are out riding. Wait until a weekday evening whent he forums get busy!

I read your question. I had know idea of the right answer so I left my mouth shut. You should appreciate that part of it. Or should I tell you to put gas and a new piston in it and go riding?

You will be able to remove your starter without removing the whole side cover. You will however need to remove the starter cover and take out the gears to be able to pull out your starter. If you have an 86 350 there was a recall on the gears way back. The problem was that these bikes had a gear that was too small and they would break the teeth. If this is the case you will have to remove the side cover anyway to clean out any remaining broken teeth from the bottom of your case. If you don't do this you may damage your ignition assembly which is a few bucks to replace. The new Honda replacement gears are now the appropriate size and should prevent any future problems.
