'05 AC 650 COMING HOME THIS SAT. ANY ADVICE
#1
And very excited, and need some advise I thought getting the winch for $69 (uninstalled) would be the best deal as AC will void the warranty if you do the tranny spring upgrades. Is this correct about the warr? What have you fellows done?
I'm also curious on my deal. Was wondering what people have been paying? Mine $7199. ++ I bought out of state so I avoided sales tax this week. I live in NJ where if you get caught uninsured or not registered=confiscation in some cases. Don't want that.
I have lurked here for a long time, and I an totally impressed on the level of knowledge. Thanks for all, and I welcome any suggestions.
I am aware of the tranny (belt and recommended spring change), and the hot exhaust bolts, and the limp mode. I also know to operate in low range.
Have these issues been resolved on the 2005's?
thanks in advance.

It depends on the dealer for the warranty issues,my dealer said he's cool with mods untill I get into cams and the like.
Get the winch, you will probably need it.Start saving your pennies for tires, you will need them as well.
Get a manual so you can do your own work, namely the clutch, you will need to play with it some.I don't have any aftermarket springs,I just keep my belt within specs and drive, and not in low all the time like they tell you to,I don't like the ride in low.I find it crawls better in high, but you are more prone to slip the belt that way, you'll get used to knowing when to put 'er in low,I did.
I think the issues you mentioned have been resolved for '05,let us know.Congrats and have fun!!!!!!!!!Welcome too.

I suggest getting the winch now.. You dont want to have to pay the extra couple hundred later. A coworker just bought a 2.5 winch from cabelas for just over $300.
Also, enjoy your new Cat! I love mine, just wish I could get out riding more.

Haha.. Thanks! I ride/work with a bunch of polaris guys. They all recently got a 50th anniversary sticker that had the "Polaris, the way out" on it. I modified it a bit.

Legally, I don't think they can void any part of the warranty that the parts do not effect. In other words, they can't refuse to fix a defective seat latch because you put a tranny spring in it. I think they would have to show that the aftermarket parts were directly responsible for the problem. Otherwise, they could void a warranty because you put aftermarket driving lights on the machine. If you have a tranny problem, the spring might void the warranty, however.
Note, I am not a lawyer. This is just my opinion based on observations of the experiences of others.

You need to find a new dealer if he would void the warrantee when you are fixing somthing that he should have fixed before he shipped it.

Thanks for all the input Guys. I'm not sure what an extended warranty is worth, but the winch will only $69. Someone said it can be bought for around $300. The dealer wants $200 to install. Not sure if that price includes all the hardware required. Iwill probably install it myself, unless it is a total hassle. I would like to get a front bumper too.
It's a toss up. An extended warranty could be a good thing. Of course, you would only expect issues with aftermarket parts being voided in that area. If you don't get it your on your own in 6 months anyway. Six month of my riding wiil barely get into the break in period. Not sure what I'm going to do yet.
The most confusing thing is high/low range. AC letter says low range. I'm not familar with the nuisances of this tranny yet, but that doesn't make sense to me. I can understand hardpack fast riding in high. Everything else low? I'm sure the dealer will have his own ideas. I'll report back.
I will have fun with this Cat, but I don't really think I will be beating on it. I will keep an eye on the belt and see what happens. I think if it is adjusted properly and your using your machine and not abusing it you will be OK.
Feel free to chime in and Thank You,

YOu can only get the winch or warranty? I thought it was 2 year warranty plus the winch for $69? That's what AC's offer is on the webpage... INstalling the winch is not that bad, and it does (at least in 2004) come with everything needed. The only hard part was running the wires down the steering column (and that just took time). Should be able to do it in an evening without a problem.
