'87 Honda XR250R question...
#1
Me and a friend are tryin' to get his XR250R up and running...it's been sitting for about a year and a half. We took the carb apart and cleaned all the parts, put a new plug in and a fresh tank of gas. We've gotten it to run for about 5 second intervals but it just won't stay running. Anyone have any suggestions? Also...we have the carb. open with no filter or air box connected...is it possible that this is leaning out the air/fuel enough to cause this?

If you put the choke on, the airbox/filter really doesn't matter. If it still won't run well it sounds like you have a fuel delivery problem. Check the float level, especially if you had the carb apart and might have moved it. Also check again that you've got all the jets opened up, particularly the pilot.

Well, we have a new problem now. We got it to idle but now it just bogs out and dies if you give it gas.
And I was just kiddin' about the 450R...I hear they run well, can't wait to meet one in the woods!
