Explain "cylinder is loosing oil". It's smoking? Like the rings are bad?

I should have elaborated. When the machine is cold, anything over idle results in smoke out the muffler. When it warms up, the smoke goes away. This R may have 40 hours on it. I have a feeling the yahoos at the dealership are behind this....when the HRC kit was installed. How many hours do you have on your R Recon?

I have nearly 100 hours on my 450r if not more. Mine runs perfectly with no smoking. Mine is still stock without the HRC kit. I have not heard of this problem on any other 450R

What oil is he using???

I have very few hours on my R. In fact, it is barely broken in. Why? I am setting it up as a desert racer, and the desert riding season doesn't start in earnest until Thanksgiving. I ride it now and then in the hills behind my house, but just to see the results of the mods I have done.

This time of year, we ride at high altitude in the mountains, on rough, rocky trails, with water crossings, etc. So, we mostly just ride the utes during the summer (unless we go to Pismo).

It's jetted way too rich due to the HRC kit reccommended jetting. It comes with a 185 main jet when to be properly jetted it should have about a 155-160 main. I just found this out from a few people that are running full system exhausts with the HRC airbox lid and are running 155 mains. My 450R does the same thing when it's cold from the rich jetting. I think Honda is doing this with the HRC kit to save their a$$ or something...... who knows, but I bet money that's the problem though.

What color is the smoke ? If its oil it will be blue , rich fuel mixture will be black , coolant will be grey and lingering. Is it actually using fluids? Sometimes they will burn a little oil for a minute or 2 until the piston and rings heat up and swell to thier running size . A little smoke is nothing to worry about but if it is making clouds then something is wrong. Being very low milage it really shoudnt have much of anything even at cold start.

He get a little cylinder oil smoke upon startup....then it goes away. His cylinder sight glass was full when he left for a ride. Came back 5 hours later and his oil sight glass indicated LOW. He spoke with a Honda rep yesterday and the guy said this is normal. The owner says the bike has not lost any power. Thanks guys.
