Default Questions on Bombers

I went to look at a Vinson yesterday and bumped into an Outlander Max on the showroom floor. I had only looked at the Traxter before and that was more than I wanted to spend, after checking out the Outlander I think that may be the way to go.

1) Does the SST frame combined with the extended wheelbase allow you to ski over giant logs as the literature illustrates? That has to be a 24 to 36 inch log they show it crossing. Does the stock skid plate handle this or do you need an aftermarket?

2) I'm a little unhappy with the single braking system, for one if the cable or lever fails you now only have the engine brake. Two, there is only one brake on the rear axle instead of two. Three, I hate machines making decisions for me, If I'm going down a steep incline I don't know if I want the front wheels doing 70% of the braking. Anyone happy/unhappy with this configuration?

3) Is the visco lok diff all it's cracked up to be? (progressively adjusting torque)

4) Rear mounted radiator with fan. I asume the fan is electric. Any problems with the bearings on the fan or operation after repeadly being submerged?

5) Reliability. I had seen posts on troubles with transmissions and brakes ( I understand all ATVs may have some problems) but anything in particaulr anyone is aware of.

6) Maintainence. I've seen posts regarding higher than normal maintainence costs regarding oil changes and brakes.

7) Warranty I know this will be dealer related, but how is the company on dealing with defects and corrections to manufacturing problems?

8) Pricing on the East Coast I've seen one advertised at $5999 (MSRP is $6799) I've yet to see what the OTD price is but if anyone is aware of good dealer prices on the East Coast.

Any other comments appreciated.

The outlander has the radiator in the front.

There is a rear foot break on the right side.

Oil changes are easy, took me 10 minutes cost me 12 bucks. Brakes don't look difficult.

There is nothing under the frame to catch on a log, so I see no reason for it to not be able to make it over one of this size.

I'm not aware of any problems with the transmission (I mean, there isn't much to them) and I think brake pad wear has been the complaint, its a heavy machine.

You should be able to get an Outlander 400 OTD for around 6K IF you do your shopping.

Picked up a yellow Outlander 330 4 x 4 this past Memorial Day, awesome machine. $5109.50 otd with the mirror. One of my brothers has the same machine, he got his last Christmas. Buying the factory oil and filter cost almost $40.00, that sucks, the crank oil and trans are together so thats good. Love the machine, will be bringing back to the dealer to get a new speedo and to fix the clunking nosie in the rear end. (there is a dealer fix for that I'm told) Had two Polaris Magnums before this and you cant even begin to compare the two, night and day. According to my speedo this 330 will run @ almost 55mph. Good luck.
